Presentation Titled “Why Do Emotions Matter? The Possibilities of Studying Emotions in the Social Sciences” Held
Within the framework of the Wednesday Talks organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Karabük University, a presentation titled “Why Do Emotions Matter? The Possibilities of Studying Emotions in the Social Sciences” was delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Zeynep KURNAZ from the Department of Sociology. The event was held at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with the participation of students and academic staff.

In her presentation, Assist. Prof. Dr. Zeynep KURNAZ emphasized that emotions, which had long remained in the background of social scientific inquiry, have increasingly emerged as a significant field of research for understanding both individual and social processes. She noted that emotions should not be regarded solely as individual experiences but also as phenomena shaped through their interaction with social relations, cultural practices, and institutional structures.

The presentation also addressed the theoretical approaches and methodological possibilities for studying emotions across various disciplines within the social sciences, particularly sociology. In this context, evaluations were made regarding the contributions of emotions research to a deeper understanding of social life, as well as recent academic studies conducted in this field.

During the question-and-answer session, participants actively contributed to the discussion by posing questions concerning the relationship between emotions, social structures, and cultural processes. The academic exchange enabled the event to conclude in a productive and interactive atmosphere.

At the end of the program, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Assist. Prof. Dr. Zeynep KURNAZ by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Muhittin KAPANŞAHİN, in recognition of her contribution.
