Associate Professor Bülent ORAL, faculty member in the Department of Art History at Karabük University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, delivered a presentation titled “The Reflection of Göbeklitepe Findings in Contemporary Art Practices” במסגרת the 3rd Symposium on Türkiye’s Historical and Cultural Heritage from Göbeklitepe to the Present.
In his presentation, Associate Professor Bülent ORAL evaluated the influence of archaeological findings unearthed during the Göbeklitepe excavations on contemporary artistic production through an interdisciplinary perspective. Focusing particularly on the reflections of prehistoric symbolism, ritual spatiality, and monumental stone craftsmanship in present-day artistic practices, ORAL emphasized that cultural heritage should be regarded not merely as a historical asset to be preserved, but also as a dynamic source that continues to inspire contemporary artistic creation.
The presentation also addressed Göbeklitepe’s contribution to paradigmatic transformations in human history, as well as its impact on contemporary aesthetic and cultural modes of representation. In this context, the significance of reinterpreting archaeological data within the framework of contemporary art for the continuity of cultural memory was highlighted.
