The Ministry has approved the ‘Islamic Period Tombstones in Kastamonu Province’ project led by Prof. Dr Anar AZİZSOY, He
Karabük University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Art History Chair Prof. Dr. Anar AZİZSOY’s project titled “Kastamonu Province Islamic Period Gravestones Project” has been approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
 

 
Since 2022, Prof. Dr. Anar AZİZSOY has been conducting archaeological surface surveys on the Turkish-Islamic period in Kastamonu province and its districts under the authorization of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums. In addition, for the past three years, he has served as the project director of the Medieval and Post-Medieval Turkish Period rescue excavations carried out under the presidency of Kastamonu Museum at and around the Mahmutbey Mosque (1366) in Kasaba Village.

Within the scope of the newly approved project, it is aimed to identify, document, evaluate, and introduce to the scholarly world the Islamic-period gravestones located throughout Kastamonu province. The project is expected to make significant contributions to revealing and preserving the Turkish-Islamic cultural heritage of the region.

As the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Karabük University, we congratulate our faculty member Prof. Dr. Anar AZİZSOY for his scholarly contributions to the documentation and preservation of regional cultural heritage, and we wish this project to provide substantial contributions to academic scholarship and cultural heritage studies.
