Dear Students,
Welcome to our Faculty. We are delighted to have you among us. With its deep-rooted history and strong academic staff, our Faculty aims to be a leading institution in the field of social sciences. Since its establishment, we have made significant progress.
Our Faculty was established under the name Faculty of Science and Letters by the Council of Ministers decision dated 12 December 2005 and numbered 2005/9744, affiliated with Zonguldak Karaelmas University, and officially began its activities upon publication in the Official Gazette dated 18 December 2005, issue no. 26027. Later, by the decision published in the Official Gazette dated 29 May 2007, issue no. 26536, it was affiliated with Karabük University.
At the Faculty Board meeting held on 28 January 2010 (decision no. 15-164), it was unanimously decided that our Faculty be restructured as the Faculty of Letters. Subsequently, by the Council of Ministers decision dated 28 July 2010 and numbered 2010/777, our Faculty became an independent faculty, which was published in the Official Gazette dated 22 August 2010, issue no. 27680. Most recently, by the Official Gazette announcement dated 14 July 2025, issue no. 32956, the name Faculty of Letters was changed to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The necessary procedures for the accreditation of our departments are being meticulously carried out. Our distinguished academic staff not only provides high-quality education to our students but also conducts national and international scientific research, contributing to the development of social sciences in our country.
Our Faculty aims to train researchers in various branches of the social sciences. Since 2013, we have offered Pedagogical Formation Training to our students and alumni, enabling them to teach in public and private educational institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. Our academic and administrative staff are committed to assisting students with all kinds of issues and providing the necessary support.
Our facilities include lecture halls with internet access, reading rooms, computer laboratories, a conference hall, a prayer room, and multi-purpose halls. Our curricula are designed to support students’ academic growth and career planning. In addition to exchange programs such as Erasmus, Mevlâna, and Farabi, we offer educational opportunities through domestic and international transfer programs as well as bilateral agreements.
Under the guidance of their academic advisors, our students can participate in scientific research projects supported by TÜBİTAK, the European Union, and various research funds.
We also organize student club activities, cultural events, and sports organizations to support the social development of our students.
Our ultimate goal is to educate the leaders and intellectuals of the future—individuals who will shape both our country and the world.
I would like to express my gratitude to all our academic and administrative staff, and to the individuals and institutions who have supported us, for their contributions to our Faculty’s achievements. I wish our esteemed students success, health, and happiness in the new academic year.
