Promotional Event Held for the Book “Karabük Graves and Gravestones”
The promotional program for the book Karabük Graves and Gravestones (Eflani, Eskipazar, Karabük Center, Ovacık, Safranbolu, Yenice), prepared under the responsibility of Prof. Dr. Lütfiye GÖKTAŞ KAYA, faculty member of the Department of Art History at Karabük University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, published with the contributions of the Safranbolu Culture and Tourism Foundation and in partnership with the Municipality of Safranbolu, was held at the Safranbolu Hilton Hotel.
 

 
The event was attended by Safranbolu Mayor Architect Elif Köse, Eflani Mayor Hüsnü Akın, representative of Ovacık Mayor Ahmet Şahin, President of the Safranbolu Culture and Tourism Foundation Şefik Yılmaz Dizdar and members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, Director of the Karabük Regional Council for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage Ali Kaçar, representative of the Directorate of Culture, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Muhittin Kapanşahin, Vice Deans Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Çınar and Assist. Prof. Dr. Samet Güven, university faculty members, students, and members of the press.
 

 
In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Lütfiye GÖKTAŞ KAYA stated that 1,000 significant gravestones were selected and compiled into the volume from among 2,500 gravestones identified through the examination of 278 villages in Karabük. She noted that this publication has secured Karabük’s place within the broader corpus of gravestone studies in Türkiye and emphasized that the preservation of historical gravestones—many of which are gradually disappearing—is essential for transmitting urban memory and cultural heritage to future generations.
